Overview

The ITIL® 4 Foundation course provides a comprehensive introduction to the ITIL 4 framework – the most widely adopted approach to IT service management in the world. Delivered over three days, the course explores the key concepts, principles, and practices that underpin effective service management, including the Service Value System (SVS), the Service Value Chain, and the Four Dimensions Model.

You will learn how organisations create, deliver, and continually improve the value of their IT services – and how ITIL 4 integrates with modern approaches such as Agile, DevOps, and Lean.

The course is designed to prepare you for the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification examination and give you a solid grounding for progressing to ITIL 4 Practitioner, Specialist, or Managing Professional qualifications.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the key concepts of IT service management and the ITIL 4 framework
  • Explain the ITIL Service Value System and its components
  • Understand the Service Value Chain and how it enables value creation
  • Identify the Four Dimensions of service management
  • Describe the seven ITIL Guiding Principles and how to apply them
  • Explain the purpose, key terms, and core activities of the 15 key ITIL practices
  • Understand how ITIL 4 relates to Agile, DevOps, and Lean ways of working
  • Prepare effectively for the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification exam

This course is suitable for:

  • IT professionals new to service management or looking to formalise their knowledge
  • IT managers and team leaders seeking a recognised qualification
  • Business and project managers working alongside IT teams
  • Anyone seeking to progress toward ITIL Managing Professional or Strategic Leader designations

No prior ITIL knowledge is required, though some experience in an IT environment is beneficial.

There are no formal prerequisites for the ITIL® 4 Foundation course. It is open to all candidates. Some experience working in an IT environment is helpful but not required.

This course prepares you for the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification examination, administered by PeopleCert on behalf of AXELOS.

  • Format: 40 multiple-choice questions
  • Duration: 60 minutes (75 minutes for candidates sitting in a non-native language)
  • Pass mark: 65% (26 out of 40)
  • Open book: No
  • Exam delivery: Online proctored or paper-based at an authorised test centre
