Overview

ITIL® (Version 5) Foundation is the official entry point into the world’s most widely adopted framework for digital product and service management. Released globally in 2026, ITIL version 5 reflects the reality of modern IT – digital-first, product-centric, AI-native – while retaining the core principles that have made ITIL the benchmark for service management practice for decades.

Over two days, this course introduces the ITIL Value System, the Product and Service Lifecycle, the Guiding Principles, and the modernised management practices that underpin consistent, value-driven service delivery. It is the foundation on which the entire ITIL v5 certification pathway is built, and the logical starting point for anyone new to the framework or moving from an earlier version.

Whether you are new to IT service management or an experienced practitioner getting up to speed with v5, this course gives you the concepts, language, and principles you need to work effectively in a modern service management environment – and the certification to prove it.

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the core concepts of digital product and service management, including value creation and co-creation
  • Describe the Four Dimensions of product and service management and how they apply in practice
  • Explain the components of the ITIL Value System, including governance, the service value chain, and management practices
  • Apply the ITIL Guiding Principles in real-world decision-making and everyday ways of working
  • Describe the Product & Service Lifecycle (Discover – Design – Acquire – Build – Transition – Operate – Deliver – Support) and the purpose of each stage
  • Explain the purpose of the core ITIL v5 management practices and how they support value delivery
  • Recognise the role of AI, automation, sustainability, and complexity-ready thinking in modern service environments
  • Use value stream mapping concepts to improve flow, visibility, and outcomes

There are no mandatory prerequisites. Experience working in IT services is advantageous but not required. No prior ITIL knowledge is assumed.

If you already hold an ITIL 4 Foundation certificate, the ITIL® (Version 5) Foundation Bridge course is a faster route to v5 certification.
