Overview

Introduction to Agile & Scrum is a practical two-day course for people who are new to Agile, or who work alongside Agile teams and want to understand what they are doing and why.

It covers the principles and history of Agile, how it differs from traditional ‘waterfall’ delivery, and the mechanics of Scrum: the roles, sprints, ceremonies and artefacts, and how progress is tracked with burn charts. It then broadens out to the other approaches delegates are likely to meet, including Kanban, Lean Startup, DSDM, MoSCoW prioritisation, Extreme Programming (XP) and SAFe, so they can see where each fits.

The course is hands-on throughout, with exercises that let delegates plan and run short sprints, prioritise a backlog and deal with change, so they leave knowing how Agile feels in practice as well as on paper.

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
– Explain the values and principles of Agile and how it differs from traditional approaches
– Describe the benefits of an Agile approach, and the situations where it fits best
– Describe Scrum roles, events and artefacts, and how a sprint runs from planning to review
– Outline the key elements of other Agile approaches, including Kanban, Lean Startup, DSDM, XP and SAFe
– Prioritise requirements using MoSCoW and backlog techniques
– Explain how risk is managed and progress measured on an Agile project

This course is designed for:
– Team members moving onto Agile projects for the first time
– Project and programme staff used to traditional methods
– Business stakeholders and product owners working with Agile teams
– Managers who need to understand and support Agile delivery
– Public sector and local authority teams adopting Agile ways of working

Once upon a time, in a bustling city where glass skyscrapers kissed the sky and the hum of technology filled the air, there was a small park. This park was an oasis of greenery amidst the urban sprawl, home to a majestic oak tree that stood tall and proud. This oak had witnessed the city grow and evolve over many decades, and it had become a symbol of strength, wisdom, and resilience for the locals.

Across the street from this park, a group of visionary entrepreneurs was in the process of establishing a new consultancy firm. They wanted a name that would not only represent their commitment to providing insightful and robust solutions but also reflect their deep roots in the community and their dedication to helping businesses grow and flourish.

One crisp autumn morning, as the founders met to brainstorm names, a ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and illuminated the old oak tree in the park. Its leaves shimmered with a golden glow, casting a warm, inviting light. Inspired by this radiant sight, one of the founders suggested the name “BrightOak.” The name embodied the brilliance of innovative ideas and the steadfast strength of the mighty oak, a perfect metaphor for their consultancy.

And so, BrightOak Consultancy was born, with a mission to illuminate the path to success for businesses of all sizes, drawing on their wisdom and experience to help clients thrive in an ever-changing world. The majestic oak continues to stand as a reminder of their origins and their commitment to excellence.
