Overview

ITSM Essentials for IT Leaders is a one-day workshop designed specifically for senior IT and business leaders who need to understand IT service management at a strategic level – without getting lost in operational detail.

Where practitioner-level ITSM training focuses on how to run individual practices, this workshop focuses on the leader’s role: setting direction, providing governance, owning outcomes, and creating the conditions in which IT services can genuinely deliver value to the business.

Designed for in-house delivery, the workshop is built around your organisation’s context, challenges, and ambitions. It is practical, discussion-led, and deliberately free of framework jargon – giving leaders a clear, confident view of what good ITSM looks like and what it needs from them.

By the end of this workshop, delegates will be able to:
– Explain what IT service management is and why leadership engagement is critical to its success
– Describe the components of a healthy service management system and the leader’s role within it
– Explain the concept of service value and how leaders influence the outcomes IT services deliver
– Describe governance responsibilities in an ITSM context – ownership, accountability, and oversight
– Identify the warning signs of poor service management and how leaders can intervene effectively
– Explain the role of culture, behaviour, and capability in driving ITSM maturity
– Describe how to assess and drive continual improvement at an organisational level
– Articulate the business case for ITSM investment to peers and stakeholders

This workshop is designed for:
– IT Directors and Heads of IT
– CIOs and CTOs seeking a practical ITSM grounding
– Senior IT managers responsible for service delivery outcomes
– Business leaders with governance or ownership responsibility for IT services
– Transformation and change leaders overseeing ITSM improvement programmes

There are no prerequisites. The workshop is designed for leaders with general IT awareness but no prior ITSM or ITIL knowledge required.

There is no examination. Delegates receive a BrightOak Certificate of Attendance on completion.

Leaders who wish to develop deeper ITSM knowledge following this workshop may wish to consider the ITIL® Foundation course.

Provided as part of the workshop:
– Delegate reference guide (concise, designed for leaders)
– Workshop slides (digital)
– BrightOak Certificate of Attendance

Materials are tailored to the organisation where possible, incorporating your sector context, current challenges, and strategic objectives.

– ITSM Essentials (BRI-ITSM-ESS) – the full 2-day programme for broader teams
– ITIL® (Version 5) Foundation – for leaders who want formal ITSM certification
– ITSM Essentials for Practice Owners (BRI-ITSM-PRC) – for the IT teams reporting to you

Once upon a time, in a bustling city where glass skyscrapers kissed the sky and the hum of technology filled the air, there was a small park. This park was an oasis of greenery amidst the urban sprawl, home to a majestic oak tree that stood tall and proud. This oak had witnessed the city grow and evolve over many decades, and it had become a symbol of strength, wisdom, and resilience for the locals.

Across the street from this park, a group of visionary entrepreneurs was in the process of establishing a new consultancy firm. They wanted a name that would not only represent their commitment to providing insightful and robust solutions but also reflect their deep roots in the community and their dedication to helping businesses grow and flourish.

One crisp autumn morning, as the founders met to brainstorm names, a ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and illuminated the old oak tree in the park. Its leaves shimmered with a golden glow, casting a warm, inviting light. Inspired by this radiant sight, one of the founders suggested the name “BrightOak.” The name embodied the brilliance of innovative ideas and the steadfast strength of the mighty oak, a perfect metaphor for their consultancy.

And so, BrightOak Consultancy was born, with a mission to illuminate the path to success for businesses of all sizes, drawing on their wisdom and experience to help clients thrive in an ever-changing world. The majestic oak continues to stand as a reminder of their origins and their commitment to excellence.
