The Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist is a three-day certification course that equips IT and compliance professionals with the skills to manage software assets effectively, reduce licence costs, and maintain compliance in complex organisational environments.
The course addresses the real-world challenges that Software Asset Managers face daily: managing diverse licensing models, navigating software audits, controlling software piracy risk, and maintaining accurate records of software entitlements and deployments. It covers ISO 19770-1 as the foundational standard for SAM practice.
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
– Explain the risks, costs, challenges, and benefits associated with Software Asset Management
– Describe the different types of licensing models used by software vendors
– Build a comprehensive business case for SAM
– Describe the key SAM processes required for an effective programme
– Evaluate and select appropriate SAM toolsets
– Develop and communicate software use policies
– Plan and implement SAM policies, procedures, and tools
– Establish and maintain a SAM database
– Explain how ISO 19770-1 relates to everyday SAM practice
– Integrate SAM with IT Service Management frameworks including ITIL
IT and compliance professionals involved in software asset management, including:
– IT asset managers and SAM specialists
– Procurement and vendor management professionals
– Compliance officers and auditors
– IT Operations Managers with software responsibility
– Organisations seeking to reduce software costs and audit risk
Recommended but not required:
– IT Asset Management (ITAM) Foundation certificate
– At least three months experience across all phases of Software Asset Management
– A general understanding of IT Service Management best practice (e.g. ITIL Foundation)
